This calendar celebrates flowers of the night, featuring phlox, cereus, primrose, jasmine tobacco, datura, and oriental lilies. These enchanting flora open themselves up under the moon in order to give sustenance to moths and other pollinators, completing the cycle of nature into the early hours of morning.
11’’ x 14’’ ~ printed on a heavy matte stock. Astrological notation is given for the new and full moons, coordinated with the PST time zone.
'COLLECTIVE QUILT' 2024 LUNAR CALENDAR
For this year’s moon calendar I wanted to make something that was more collaborative, that involved participation from my community. I have long been fascinated by Jungian psychology and the eternal nature of symbols, so I asked folks to send me lists of the symbols that were most precious to them. I chose to illustrate the things that were most often repeated or that felt potent for the coming year, in a tapestry-like border, calling to mind the idea of quilts and various parts coming together to make a whole. In essence— unity.
Serpents, butterflies, hearts, daisies, hands, roses, ribbons, birds, yin-yang, moons, rainbows, forget-me-nots, vessels, seashells, sunflowers, and eyes all made it onto the calendar. I was so touched by the sea of symbols offered to me by the community, I wish I could’ve illustrated them all. <3
